MAITRE aspires to give food and nutrition research a higher profile in Europe, and to make citizens more familiar with the current innovations and discoveries in food research; including health and well-being, consumer habits and nutrition, food processing and management, quality and safety, sustainable food production.
The key objective is to show researchers how to get their messages through the media, in a way that is understandable to the larger public.
The project has the potential to enhance the researchers’ capacity to explain the scope and results of their activities, thus making it possible to bring science closer to the citizens. Utterly, it promotes a better understanding of why the integration of European research resources is beneficial to the European citizens.
MAITRE revolves around a cycle of training sessions held by journalists and media experts, and offered to a target group of approximately 600 researchers from different organisations involved in food research.
The training sessions are organised paying a special attention to the coverage of a wide array of EU countries, also including the countries of the enlarged Europe.
In turn, the hands-on seminars address important issues researchers should be aware of when interacting with the media, thus empowering them to better communicate their research.
